All ages and abilities are very welcome, the emphasis is always on fun!

At each jam we’ll play all our latest songs plus a random selection of earlier songs and songs from the Favourites Songbook. Please try to bring them all with you.

Our Next Jam — 14th February 2016

First, before we get on to the new songs for this month, a note about Wagon Wheel. If you don't know the song well, it's not easy to scan all the words correctly and last time we sang this we didn't! To help get this right, here's a copy of Wagon Wheel marked up with the syllables on the first and third beats (the strongest beats) of each bar underlined.

Follow this marked-up copy while listening to the song. The words on our sheet are as sung by Old Crow Medicine Show (the 'original' and still the best!), but the cover versions of this are not a lot different. Here are some YouTube links:

There's a good uke version on YouTube here.

It's worth knowing a little bit about the history of Wagon Wheel. Bob Dylan wrote the original song and you can hear him on YouTube singing this here. Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show modified the song and their version, released in 2004, was certified platinum in 2013. The song has been covered many times, most notably by Darius Rucker in 2013, who made it into a No. 1 Hot Country Songs, and Irish singer Nathan Carter in 2012. It is these cover versions that many people know. Read an interesting account of how Ketch Secor wrote the popular version of the lyrics on Wikipedia.

Finally, in "Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree" there's a very short instrumental at the end of the second chorus. For anyone who's interested, here's the uke tab for this:
